Thanks so much to Amy and Christy from 11 Magnolia Lane and Jenny from Evolution of Style for including me on this Holiday Home Tour! I hope you’ve been following along with all the wonderful bloggers this week…if you’ve missed any they are all linked at the bottom of this page. If you’re coming from Tamara at Citrine Living…just wow, right? And be sure to visit Chris at Just a Girl Blog next…another wow and I’m so glad she is back in the blogosphere!

Today I’m featuring one of our two guest bedrooms at Idlehour. I call this one the Alpine Room as it is inspired by Bavarian style decor. We lived in Germany for about 10 years, it is a country very dear to my heart! The sunny colors here always remind me of the wonderful times we had there.

This is considered a loft bedroom, the old barn doors on the outside open to a beautiful view of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

This sleigh bed came from Europe and is perfect for this Bavarian inspired “zimmer”!

We actually have a Christmas tree farm, I mentioned in my last post, right down the “hill” from our neighborhood! In that direction!

I’m not sure if there is a military spouse out there that was stationed in Germany in the 80s and remembers these houses, Ursula Leyk Lichthaus, they were all the rage then! I have 4 that I treasure, I wish now I had purchased more. I didn’t see them when we went back 20 years later.

Do you change out pictures? Artwork? Bedding or curtains for the holidays? I do where I can!

I made a garland of some of my favorite silver ornaments from Germany, they are so delicate and beautiful!

Another Germany purchase…bags made from original Swiss Army blankets.

Vielen dank (thanks very much) for letting Quarters One be a stop on your journey today! If you have a chance like us on Instagram @quartersone and on Facebook.com/QuartersOne!
Frohe Weihnachten! Shand

This is such a fabulous room. Love the tall ceilings and the wonderful light in the room. You have it decorated to perfection.
Thank you so much, Marty!
It looks wonderful and reminds me of Chris’s and my trip to Germany to visit you and the beautiful countryside. I love the ornament garland you made and I still have our little village houses. I’m going to pull them out this year! ☺️❤️
Job well done, sister! Love you!
That was such a fun trip!! I haven’t gotten these houses out in years, I’m so glad I held on to them!! Love you, too!!!
Love your guest room! And seeing the little houses from Rothenburg brought back wonderful memories! I was an Air Force wife in 1987 and living near Frankfurt. My parents came to visit and we took them to Rothenburg. My mother bought several of these little houses. I was only able to get one at the time. My mom passed in 2020, but my dad has her houses on display and we lit them at Christmas last year and plan to do the same this year. Such wonderful memories!
Thank you so much for sharing that story!! That is the same time I bought the houses, we were there (my third time!) in Aschaffenburg. I previously lived in Stuttgart and Babenhausen. I’m so sorry about your mom but I’m glad you and your dad have some happy little memories in those houses. Thank you, again for sharing and Merry Christmas! Fondly, Shand
What a beautiful room! I am partial to red and white check because our last house had a sunroom and that’s how I decorated it. It’s my first time here but not my last. Have you read The Wish by Nicholas Sparks? It takes place on a tiny island off the coast of NC. Have a wonderful weekend!
Thank you, Katie! I love red and white, I wish I could decorate more with it! I haven’t read that yet, but we aren’t too far from his hometown of New Bern!! Thank you for ready Quarters One!! Merry Christmas!
Shand, dein Alpenzimmer ist wunderschön! I’ll bet your guests look forward to an invitation to Idlehour! Germany isn’t very fun right now– they just closed all the Christmas markets down in Baden-Würrttemberg–but so far we can still go to other states or France to visit theirs. Hopefully sanity will return soon. In the meantime, at least I can still find antiques on Marketplace! Thanks for touring with us again, and Merry (early) Christmas!
Vielen Danke, Christy! I am so sorry you haven’t been able to experience the very best of Germany while you’ve been there. My daughter in England has struggled, too with all the shut downs. Hopefully you’ll have one more year and everything will be open! Merry Christmas!
I’d love staying in that guest bedroom! It’s lovely and the furniture is gorgeous. And what a great idea to add the barn doors to the loft window. Very clever. This is a new blog to me and I love it. Glad to have hopped with you. I’ll be back again! pinned
Thank you, Cindy! I have loved following your blog and being a part of all the fun!
Shand your home is so beautiful! I love the floors and genuine shiplap walls, and all your personal touches that make it so homey and warm. What a lucky guest that will stay in this room! Thanks for sharing. So many great ideas! Hope you enjoy the Christmas season!
Thank you so much, Lisa!! Merry Christmas!
